Giorgio Beverly Hills is an American brand founded by Fred and Gayle Hayman in 1961. Named after the luxury boutique whose sunny yellow and white striped awning inspired the perfume's packaging, the fragrance of the same name would go on to become one of the most iconic fragrances of the 1980s. This luxury bottle comes packaged in a bright yellow box emblazoned with stripes like the iconic boutique where it all began.
Fred Hayman wanted the bottle, designed by famed glass artist Carlton Kirby, to be opulent and dramatic. He worked with designer Milton Glaser, who created the flamboyant swooping cursive print under the bottle's neck. This red-and-gold color scheme, plus his use of dramatic fonts, reflected the decadence of 1980s fashion.
With a nose for opportunity, Fred Hayman scouted Beverly Hills with a plan in mind. Perfume was a new venture for this savvy businessman and he wanted to encourage shoppers in the newly opened Beverly Centre to take a break from their high-end shopping bags with a whiff of something familiar. The brand which still bears his name today would be yet another international success story in a career filled with them.
